German Light Manufactory 1862

Services

Craftsmanship and the highest quality in every detail

Light is far more than function. It creates atmosphere, sets architectural accents and brings historic rooms back to life. With deep respect for traditional craftsmanship, years of expertise and an eye for the exceptional, we devote ourselves to the restoration, reconstruction and new design of exclusive luminaires. Since 1862 our work has kept the traditions and quality of the craft alive.

Restoration & expert refurbishment of luminaires & brass objects

Whether a delicate single piece, a historic wall or floor light or an imposing chandelier, we restore objects of every size with the utmost precision and care. At the heart of our work is the value-preserving, expert treatment of the metal and a careful approach to the historic substance. Thanks to our team’s long experience, we bring the original lustre of fine one-of-a-kind pieces fully back to light.

Our restoration process

Thorough consultation & concept

Every project begins with a sound analysis, an individual approach and a transparent breakdown of costs.

Finishing & surface treatment

We free the material of dirt, then degrease and polish it with the greatest care. Depending on its condition and the historical specifications, we finish with a protective lacquer or a targeted colouring.

Material replacement & glass restoration

Defective elements that can no longer be saved are replaced with precisely fitting new material of high quality. Working closely with specialised partners in glass making, we have glass elements restored or made anew.

Construction drawings & electrics

Where needed, we produce detailed construction drawings. All electrical work is carried out in-house, including expert modernisation to contemporary LED technology.

Historical reconstruction – making the lost visible again

The faithful reconstruction of historical luminaires is one of the absolute specialities of our design engineers and chasers. Based on old photographs, sketches or fragmentary originals, we bring historical masterpieces back to life.

Unique resources form the foundation of our work: our workshops hold Germany’s largest store of casting moulds and Europe’s largest store of spinning chucks. This vast collection covers every stylistic era and formal element and allows us to carry out even the most complex reconstructions true to detail. In close and trusting cooperation with heritage authorities, architects and building owners, we make what was lost tangible again and fit it seamlessly into the historical whole.

Bespoke luminaires made to measure

Demanding architecture calls for tailor-made lighting. Together with architects, lighting designers, electrical planners and private building owners, we develop unique luminaires that fit harmoniously into existing or new rooms and set accents full of character. The focus lies on construction and feasibility, and finding the solution is the most exciting part of any bespoke piece.

Drawing on our long experience, we stand by your side as a reliable partner from the first idea through budget-true costing to the final production.

Professional retrofit to modern LED technology

We combine historical aesthetics with future-proof energy efficiency. For existing luminaires we offer expert, gentle conversion to modern LED technology, carried out on site. We work for maximum efficiency and optimum light quality without changing the character of the object.
